For over 42 years the Rotary Club of Toukley, now the Rotary Club of Northlakes Toukley, took great pride in presenting an annual art exhibition known as the Central Coast Festival of Arts. This exhibition presented the local community with the opportunity to experience a world class art exhibition as well as to provide a showcase for both local and national artists.

During this period in excess of $100,000.00 was presented in prize money and more than $150,000.00 was distributed to local charities and Rotary projects.

In 2009 the organising committee was approached by the management of the Kooindah Waters Golf and Spa Resort with a view to conduct an outdoor sculpture exhibition in conjunction with the 2010 Festival of Arts. Unfortunately, at this time, the cost of mounting the exhibition was becoming prohibitive and beyond the means of the club so the decision was made to defer the Festival and to consider its future direction.

This provided the opportunity to develop the sculpture exhibition, in conjunction with the Resort, into a standalone exhibition. The exhibition was called “Sculpture on the Greens” with a prize of $2000.00 going to Wollongong Sculptor Libby Bloxham for her work “Sharing the Greens”. The exhibition was an unqualified success creating a great deal of interest among both sculptors and the community.

This success provided the motivation and impetus to expand the exhibition in 2011. With cultural professionals from the Gosford Regional Gallery, Wyong Shire Council, business professionals from many fields coming on board, together with a magnificent venue, the scope of the exhibition has been greatly expanded.

From this humble beginning the Kooindah Acquisitive Sculpture Prize Exhibition (KASPE) was born. Prize money in excess of $13,000.00 is on offer, including an acquisitive prize of $10,000.00

Following the 2011 exhibition the management of the venue changed hands becoming the Mercure Kooindah Waters Golf and Spa Resort. The new management proved to be very supportive of the exhibition and, through negotiation, we are able to announce its continuation, with a few quite major changes

  1. 1.A reversion to our original name “Sculpture on the Greens”
  2. 2.Removal of the acquisitive component of the prize
  3. 3.And most important of all, an assurance of its continuation into the future.
