President's Message

Welcome back to the second half of our Rotary year.  I sincerely hope that everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and that your new year started just the way you wanted it.

I would like to begin by thanking everyone, especially Past President Torin, for the magnificent effort during the Christmas tree sales prior to Christmas.  It was a wonderful record breaking effort.  Also thanks to those that provided gifts to the Ray White and Rotary Christmas tree and particularly to Maurie Schokman for organising and distributing the gifts.

I am looking forward to the rest of this Rotary year and it certainly looks as if it is going to be a busy and exciting one.  We begin the new year with a fun social night of barefoot bowls this Wednesday evening.  Because the lights are not available this week we are turning our meeting upside down with bowls first at 7pm followed by dinner and fellowship from 7:30pm.

Don't forget our combined clubs cabaret  is only three weeks away on Sunday 7th February.  Representatives from Northlakes Toukley, The Entrance and Wyong Tuggerah have held two meetings recently and the organisation is well in hand and it is sure to be a very entertaining afternoon. If you have any unwanted Christmas gifts or anything else suitable for use as raffle prizes please let me know.  Tickets are just $20 dollars and are available through Halekulani and are already selling well.  If you want to be sure of being on a Rotary table please book through the our club so that we can make a group booking.

In an effort to raise awareness of the work of Northlakes Toukley Rotary in our community I have booked time at Northlakes Shopping Centre.  This will provide a showcase for our programs and projects as well as being able to sell our community raffle tickets.  The following dates have been booked: Friday 19th February, Friday 11th March, Saturday 16th April, Saturday 7th May and Friday 20th May.  If you are  available to help man the table on any of those dates please let me know.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the bowls.

Yours in Rotary

Jenny Abourizk

There is a story told in my Hindu tradition of two sages, Shaunaka and Abhipratari. They were worshippers of Prana, the wind god. One day, the two men were about to sit down to lunch when a poor student knocked on their door, asking for food.

"No, boy, do not bother us at this hour," was the reply. The student was surprised but very hungry, so he persisted.

"Tell me, honored sirs, which deity do you worship?"

"Prana, the wind god," they answered impatiently.

"Do you not know that the world begins and ends with wind, and that wind pervades the entire universe?"

The two sages were by now very irritated by their impertinent guest. "Of course we know it!" they replied.
