President's Message

It was good to see Bruce Hodges and Colin Stephens back with us last week.  I hope both are now in good health.  It was also good to see Bruce back in top form as our sergeant-at-arms.

This week is one of our most important events of the year, the Primary Citizenship Awards.  We have over 30 schools participating this year and so we are expecting an attendance of more than 260 people.  I must thank Past President Bruce Thompson for the tremendous effort in puts in organising this event, it is always first class.  I would also like to see as many Rotarians as possible attending to support Bruce.

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that it would be good to support The Rotary Club of The Entrance which is putting together boxes of special treats to send to our troops overseas for Christmas.  These can be any item such as biscuits, confectionary, toiletries etc.  Something special that they might not otherwise receive.  There will be a box to leave them in at the Awards night this week.

The sale of Christmas trees will be on the weekends of 5/6 and 12/13 of December.  Torin will soon be seeking volunteers to help with the sales.  If you can help I'm sure he would appreciate it.  We are attempting to get a guest speaker for next week from Grandparents Raising  Grandchildren, who are the major recipients of the sales.  More news about this later.

Our Christmas party is on 16th December.  It will be at the Coast 89 Restaurant at Toowoon Bay on the corner of Toowoon Bay Rd and Bay Rd.  The restaurant will be open only for us, our families and friends.

Finally don't forget our Annual General Meeting is on 2nd December.

 Until next time

Yours in Rotary

Jenny Abourizk

Christmas Tree Sales 2015

The Express Advocate has again been very kind to our club publishing a story I submitted on Grandparent Raising Grandchildren plus the annual sale of Christmas Trees to help Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and other Rotary Projects.

As Torin is overseas at the moment I know he will soon be sending out an email asking for volunteers to man the Wyong and Bateau Bay locations on 5/6  & 12/13 December from 7am to 2pm. Please give it some thought and be ready to be a volunteer.

Also a BIG thankyou to LBH and Lyn Thompson for giving us a half page advert for Christmas Trees in her latest B2B Work Stay Play publication (it is worth a read). Also watch out for radio advertising from 2GO who like LBH and Express have been big supporters of this program and our club for years.

Rotary Foundation Dinner

Maurie Schokman and Ken Smith attended the Rotary Foundation Dinner last week.  We were honoured to have as guest speaker the President Elect of Rotary International, John Germ (pictured speaking at the dinner).

John is a good friend of Rotary in Australia and our district.  His passion for Rotary and the Foundation became very obvious through his inspirational address.

It is events such as this that highlights the wonderful work of Rotary world wide.  If you have the chance to attend such an occasion it will greatly widen your understanding of our wonderful organisation.
