President's Message

I was thrilled this week to perform one of the most satisfying things a president can do when we inducted David Knight into our club.  David has been a valued part of our family for some time so it was good to be able to make it official.

Also at our last meeting PDG Tony Castley was a great inspiration passing on his knowledge of the Rotary Foundation.  I for one learned a lot and judging by the positive comments so did many of our members.

Christmas tree sales are just around the corner and both Pp Torin O'Grady and Maurie Schokman have put a lot of effort into making it the successful project it always is.  Sales volunteers will soon be being called for.

The 18th November is our Junior Citizenship Awards Night.  This is always a very big night and organiser Bruce Thompson would like to see as many as possible attending to ensure its smooth running.

Our Christmas party will soon be upon us so be sure to set aside 16th December for a great night.

Finally don't forget that this week is a Board meeting starting at 5:30 sharp followed by a club forum.

 Until next time

Yours in Rotary

Jenny Abourizk

Presidential Message

One sunny morning at the end of June 1991, a van drove through the busy, rush-hour streets of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Winding through traffic to a northern suburb, the van arrived at the Forward Command Headquarters of the Defense Ministry. Security guards stopped it for inspection. When they did, the two suicide bombers driving the van detonated their cargo: thousands of kilograms of plastic explosives.

Last Week

Rotary Foundation Month was recognised last week with PDG and District Foundation Chair Tony Castley being our guest speaker. Tony's expert knowledge of our Foundation was an inspiration and left our members with a far greater understanding of the wonderful work done by our own organisation.
