President's Message

What a great night we had last week.  A good movie, great company and a wonderful cause.  I am told that we should go close to raising $1,000.00 towards polio eradication.  This together with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation 3 for 1 commitment makes a significant contribution from our club.  Thanks to our Foundation Chair Ken Smith for organising the event.

Last Friday I had an interesting time cooking a BBQ for a golf day at Kooindah Waters.  We were able to sell some of our raffle tickets.  Although our raffle is just over a week old sales have been outstanding.  I am pleased to report that the Iris Foundation has taken 19 books and hope to sell many tickets at a fundraising event they are holding at Lakehaven Bunnings.

Time is running out to take advantage of the early bird offer to attend the District Conference next year.  A number of you have indicated your intention to go to this conference.  It would be good to organise a group booking for accommodation so if you are interested please let me know.

We have another different meeting this week as we have a vocational visit the Central Coast Brewery.  George will be cooking one of his famous barbecues so make sure you come along for a meeting with a difference.

On 4th November we return to the Hali after a two week absence and it is an important meeting.  November is Rotary Foundation Month and we have the District Chairman of the Rotary Foundation PDG Tony Castley as our guest speaker.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about the Foundation and its worldwide humanitarian work.

Until next time

Yours in Rotary

Jenny Abourizk

Next Week

4th November

November is Rotary Foundation Month and we are very fortunate to have the District Chairman of the Rotary Foundation PDG Tony Castley as our guest speaker.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our newer members, as well as us old hands, to find out or re-acquaint with what the Foundation is and what the Foundation does, directly from the person that knows more about our Foundation than most.

Attendance Notification

Although there is no meal selection this week we still need to know your attendance intention for catering purposes.

Last Week

Last week we enjoyed the movie Bridge of Spies while raising funds for the End Polio Now campaign.  Over $800.00 was raised with more to come.  When this is tripled so generously by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation some $2500.00  will be added to the global amount from our club.

My thanks to President Jenny, Roshni Sinha and Jan Pryor for their valuable assistance on the night.  Thanks also to Maurie Schokman for donating the auction prize and to Mike Herniman for his generous bid.

Judging by everyone's comments it was a great and movie and an enjoyable evening.

Cararoo Foundation Update

Typhoon Koppu battered Northern Philippines and parts of Manila last week. Through good fortune it bypassed our village, however strong winds badly damaged the roof of our canteen and learning centre. Initial report is that we will have to replace the roof on both areas an estimate cost of $1,500 to $2,000.

The rain is continuing the ladies cook meals with water under foot and the children have lunch with umbrellas. We will apply to Pink Umbrella at next month’s RAWCS meeting and see if we qualify for $1,000 grant.

 As always donations are appreciated
