This Week

30th September

Visit to Iris Foundation

This week we will visit the premises of the Iris Foundation.  The renovation of the building used by the Iris Foundation has been a major project of our club and this visit provides an opportunity to see the outcome of our work in action. Bev Baldwin and Dawn Hooper, the driving forces behind this Foundation, would like to see as many of our members as possible come along.

Following this visit, for those that wish, we will head off to the Grand Hotel to finish the night with dinner and fellowship.

The entrance to the Iris Foundation is behind the old school site off Rankens Crt Wyong.

Charity Movie Night

Wednesday 21st October

Join us for a great night in support of this important project.  There is more reason to celebrate now that Nigeria has been declared polio free and that only 36 cases of polio have been reported world wide so far this year. However we can't rest and the fight must continue until this scourge is beaten permanently.

All profits raised will support the End Polio Now campaign and every dollar raised will be matched 2 for 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation so it really is an opportunity to make a difference.

Samaritans Gift Boxes

This is our 6th year, so far we have sent over 150 Boxes to children in third world countries like Cambodia via the Samaritans Organisation – a good cause. FOR AS LITTLE AS $30 Per BOX WE CAN BRING SOME HAPPINESS TO A CHILD.

As I have done in the past, if you do not have the time to fill the boxes yourself ($15 - $20 of gifts + $9 shipping) I will be happy to do a bulk shopping trip and fill the boxes for you – the cost will be $30 per box. A number of members have already taken the $30 option.

I plan to go shopping on 9th October. For those who have not taken a box as yet I will leave a pack of boxes in the RCNT storage area at the Hali.

At the moment we have a total of 42 boxes allocated, let’s see if we can make it 60 boxes.

We need to have shoe boxes ready for delivery no later than 15th October 2015

1. Fill Shoe Box with gift around $15 to $20

2. Mark Girl or Boy

3. Age Group 2 to 4 OR 5 to 9 OR  10 to 14 years

4. Include $9 for handling cost

The World Health Organization (WHO) today announced that it has officially removed Nigeria from the list of countries where polio is endemic. It’s been 14 months since a case of polio caused by the wild virus was reported there. That leaves only two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, where transmission of the virus has never been stopped. Read more about the WHO’s announcement.
