President's Message

Firstly a very warm welcome to our Club’s newest members Sam Parker , Matt Brown & Debbie Carroll. Please take every opportunity to make them feel welcome .

This week is our final Dinner Meeting for the year and it is an opportunity for members to meet with representatives from all the charities and community groups that we have supported over the past year. Our Benefactors & Beneficiaries night also gives us the opportunity to thank all our sponsors for their assistance and support as well as an opportunity to plant the seed for continuing assistance next year. Format of the evening has slightly changed from previous years offering a more casual & relaxed atmosphere for members to mingle with our guests. Normal  Dinner charge of $20 applies.

By now all members should have received their personal invitation to our Changeover Dinner which is to be held on Wednesday 24th June at Kooindah Waters. We need to confirm numbers and so I would ask that you advise Jenny Abourizk as  soon as possible.

This Week

10th June (6:30 pm start tonight)

Benefactors' Dinner

This is another of our important events where we take the opportunity to thank those individuals, businesses and organisations that have helped our club to help our community through their donations, time and in kind support.

It is also the time in which we distribute much of the funds we have raised throughout the year to those charities and organisations that we are supporting.

Make sure you come along and see the results of your club in action.

Last Week

From left: PE Jenny Abourizk, Sam Parker, Matt Brown, President Peter McCloskey, Debbie Carroll and Membership Chair Lyn Thompson.

Last week we were privileged to induct three new members  to the Rotary family.  Our newest Rotarians Sam Parker, Matt Brown and Debbie Carroll were introduced by President Elect Jenny and Membership Chair Lyn.  There is no doubt that their enthusiasm and demonstrated dedication to their professions will make them valued members to both our club and to Rotary.

Guest Speaker.

Jan Pryor (pictured here front right with Pp Annette D'Adam, Mike and Jose Herniman and one of our newest Rotarians Sam Parker) told us of her work with the Didi Foundation.  In particular she told how the solar panels, purchased with the help of our club, have made such a difference to the Bright Future Children's Home.

We also heard of her harrowing experiences trapped near the Tibet Nepal border by severe landslides during the Nepal earthquake disaster. Many nights were spent sheltering under canvas while waiting for roads to be cleared and suffering numerous aftershocks.  During this time the outcome remained uncertain and concerning.  Surely a life changing experience.

It is great to have her back safe and sound and to know that the children of The Bright Future Children's Home are safe and that their building and solar panels are undamaged.

Both Jan and her Foundation are now involved in the recovery process supply building materials and support to outlying communities.
