President's Message

Hello, Fellow Rotarians,

Namaste!   - (meaning -my soul acknowledges your soul.)

"The secret to getting ahead is getting started" Agatha Christie.

July 4th was our first Board Meeting and Club meeting.

It was a pleasure to see the following Board Members who made an effort to be present.

It was Stuart's wedding anniversary but he managed to come for the meeting and assisted me during the meeting. I would be really " up the creek without a paddle" for me if he did not come. Happy Anniversary to Rebecca and Stuart.

David our past president emailed me at 4.30pm, just before the meeting, informing me that he has the flu and will not be able to attend.  I hope he is feeling better.

I am grateful for Maurie for installing   Project Managers and we will have a committee with each project.  This enables all Rotarians to be a part of the club activities. You each do what you can, I know some of us have more time but whatever you contribute during the meetings will be appreciated.  I  think Annette was a great assistant to Maurie.

Thank you to Jenny who surprised me because she had already sent an apology. She said she wanted to support me for the first Board Meeting. I really appreciated her effort and also for providing information regarding grants.

It was good to see Jackie and Jan and Debbie, they all contributed to making the first meeting a success.

Debbie has been doing a remarkable job as our Club Programme Director. I appreciate her taking on this responsibility for us this year as well.  We will have a guest speaker on July 18, Greg from Kariong Somersby to update us on Shelter Box as well as brief history on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.  Our AG Susan Wakefield will be our guest on September 5th.

Thank you, Debbie and I am certain we will have interesting speakers this year.

The club members, Bruce, Philip, Rasik,  Kylie, and Brett made it a very interesting evening. Philip proudly wore his pin "Be the Inspiration". Thank you, Philip, you will be our Sargeant of Arms, fining everyone $1. if they do not have their pin.!

We discussed some projects we would like to inject in our year.  Our focus will be Rotary in our neighborhood.

I have a list of ideas to give to the members who were not present this week.

Brett has clarified the funding regarding the shed and it is all accounted for and has become crystal clear to me. There will not be any financial responsibility for our year. Thank you. Brett, you will need to explain this accounting mysteries to me maybe more than once during the year!. Thank you to all  Rotarians who sent their apologies.

We were pleasantly surprised by a visiting Rotarian from Northern Beaches, Doreen Fender, she was delightful and told us a little bit about herself. She was a Past President of her club.  She is thinking of joining our club and was enthusiastic about what we are planning to do this year. She will be a great asset to our club and our first new member.  This is a good omen - what a start!.

I hope you all remember that the Cabaret is on July 8th, it is a combined effort by RCNT, Wyong, and Hali, let us show some support for a worthy cause.

Please, everyone, always feel you can talk to me about what you would like to do in our club.  We may not agree and the Board may not agree but we all have a voice and it needs to be heard. I feel excited as we start our year and the enthusiasm displayed during the meetings makes me believe it will be enjoyable, fulfilling and a  rewarding year.

Thank you to Bruce and Philip for setting up the theme banners.  It is great to come to the meeting and the room it is ready.

Thank you to everyone for a successful  1st Meeting..See you all at our next meeting on July 18th.

Yours In Rotary

Shelter Box Update Plus

Brief history on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

Our dear friend Greg Groppenbacher from Kariong Somersby Rotary will give us an update on Shelter Box. Also following our last meeting where a number of members had questions on the history of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, as one of the founding members of this project we have asked Greg to give us a brief history lesson.

With regards to Shelter Box, Greg will give history on Shelter Box - this will be  good for our newer members:

• How Shelter Box operates and deploys

• Some statistics of the efforts over the years

• Changes to the types of shelter and support Shelter Box can now provide - a more flexible approach

• Changes to its charitable status allowing for tax deductible donations

Greg  will bring along a Shelter Kit which is now becoming the product of choice for many countries.

July 2018 While Arki was in her Euro Tour she was able to catch up with her first cousin Mimi who is on RYE in Italy. There was a lot of emotion having not seen family for 4 months. Mimi’s Italian host parents were so kind to drive Mimi the two hours from where she is in exchange in Udine …

This Week's Humour

A bloke was very overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet.

"You need to eat as you normally would for 2 days, then skip a day, and continue doing this for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you'll have lost at least 5 kilograms."

When the bloke next saw the doctor, he shocked the doctor by proving he'd lost
nearly 20kg.

"Why, that's amazing!" the doctor exclaimed, "Did you follow my instructions?"

The bloke nodded and said, "I'll tell you though, I thought I was going to drop dead that 3rd day."
"From hunger, you mean?" asked the doctor.

"No, from all that skipping."....
