President's Message

Greetings

The past board and club meetings were packed with plans, finance, projects, stories of amazing success, laughter and fellowship. The key outcome of the meetings was encapsulated in the quote 'Giving is living. What is important is how much of yourself you put into the giving. That is what makes the living remarkable' (The Rotarian, January 1992). We were about giving of ourselves and resources so that others may prosper. It was 'living remarkably'.

Please consider attending sister Rotary clubs activities (details in newsletter):

*  East Gosford Rotary 'Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' 9 May at Cinema Paradiso, Ettalong at 7:00 pm. Tickets $20.

*  Woy Woy Rotary changeover 17 June where Jayne Mote will be installed as president. Bookings $30 per head.

Last Meeting 2nd May 2018

Board meeting followed by members forum, hosted by guest president Maurie.

As mentioned by President David, a very informative Board Meeting where much of the time was spent discussing GRANTS both district and international, projects for the rest of the Rotary year and how projects should be run and managed going forward and also a detailed review of financials.

The dinner meeting and forum was informative with both Maurie and Jan spending sometime discussing their projects in Philippines and Nepal. PP Annette give a quick travel log on her family trip to Nepal and India. Debbie Carroll spent a bit of time discussing program and potential speakers and Maurie also mentioned his plans for Game 1, State of Origin on 6th June. Members will be sent details under separate  email. Most of all everyone had fun and laughed a lot. Good meeting.

The current water conditions in East Africa have caused a number of issues such as diseases and tribal conflicts over the remaining water resources. Additionally, as clean water becomes harder to find, women are forced to walk for many miles each day to find the water needed for the family

Safe drinking water is critical to human health and development. In rural sub-Saharan Africa, most improved water sources are boreholes with handpumps.; studies suggest that up to one-third of these handpumps are nonfunctional at any given time. This is why BeyondWater involves the community before starting the project. We ensure that the committee has a woman as the leader because we believe in women leadership. Would you consider supporting a rural community in East Africa to get clean water?

This Week's Humour

In the back woods of West Virginia, the redneck's wife went into labour in the
middle of the night, and the doctor was called to assist in the delivery. Since there
was no electricity, the doctor handed the father-to be a lantern and said, "Here,
you hold this high so I can see what I'm doing."
Soon, a baby boy was brought into the world. "Whoa there," said the doctor. "Don't
be in a rush to put the lantern down... I think there's yet another one to come." Sure enough, within
minutes he had delivered a baby girl. "No, no, don't be in a great hurry to be putting down that
lantern... It seems there's yet another one in there!" cried the doctor.
The Redneck scratched his head in bewilderment, and asked the doctor, "Do you think it's the light
that's attractin' 'em?".
