President's Message

Throughout the years, it is so easy to regard the efforts of fellow Rotarians as expected rather than appreciated. While Mitch's application to the Wyong Race Day has been an ongoing commitment, this time. he went a step further towards excellence. Mitch, your efforts have given us to the privilege of being part of an exceptional activity that has a solid future. Well done mate!

The presentation on Wednesday night by Garry and Darrel Smith about their passion Helping Hands reminded us that we are about supporting our community even at the basic levels. My heart ached when they spoke of the homeless of our community as I recalled my past ministry with the homeless. These two men, let alone Helping Hands, are ours at heart. It is time to reach out with our hands and get behind them and more so, the people they serve.

We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty’.  Mother Teresa

Presentation by helping Hands Garry & Darrel Smith

A great presentation given by Garry Smith who with his brother Darrel has a mission:

• To reach all homeless persons within the Wyong shire, to support their nutritional needs to promote their wellbeing.

• To provide companionship, support and inform them of other supports within the area

• Show the respect all members of the community deserve and need.

• Not make any assumptions or judgements on a persons situations or actions. Giving people the opportunity to have someone to talk to whilst making meaningful engagements within the community.

• To show people there is someone out there who cares about their individual circumstances and wishes to listen to their story.

Rotarians Against Malaria – an activity of Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS)

Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) is a volunteer-run organisation working to eliminate malaria. Fifteen years ago, malaria killed a child every 30 seconds. Under the Millennium Development Goals, however, considerable progress has been made in preventing, diagnosing and treating malaria. As a result, deaths have fallen by 60 percent. Now, under the ambitious Sustainable Development Goals, we are aiming to reduce malaria cases and deaths by a further 90 percent by 2030.

This Week's Humour

A man spoke to each of his 3 sons when he sent them off to college, "I feel it's my duty to provide you with the best possible education, and you do not owe me anything for that.  However,  I want you to appreciate it. As a token, please each put £1,000 into my coffin when I die.

 And so it happened.....

His sons became a doctor, a lawyer and a financial planner, each very successful financially. When their father's time had come, and they saw their father in the coffin, they remembered his wish.

The doctor put 20 crisp £50 notes onto the coffin  Then, the financial planner put £1,000 there in £50 crisp £20 notes.  Finally, it was the turn of the heartbroken lawyer. He reached into his pocket, pulled out his checkbook, wrote a check for £3,000, put it into his father's coffin and took the £2,000 cash.

The lawyer is now running for
Parliament possibly in your constituency.
