President's Message

Greetings

At our last meeting, Assistant District Governor Jayne Mote complimented on the varied ways our Club raise funds. other Clubs usually rely upon one or two events. Even large member clubs have limited events. We are privileged to have dedicated Rotarians that apply their skills and contacts to undertake major fundraising activities with sponsorship.

Our Wyong Race Day fundraiser on Saturday 3 March is one of our most effective activities.  The Wyong Racing Club has been very generous in giving us access to the marque. Lets get behind Mitch as he leads us and show the Racing Club how competent we are by making it a resounding success.

One of the Clubs largest projects is the Camp Toukley vehicle and maintenance shed. The shed agenda has been brought forward due to upcoming increase in material costs. The Board has authorised transfer of funds to Camp Toukley to purchase the shed materials etc. There still are council and fire regulation approvals, clearing the site, electrical, plumbing and cement slab. It is anticipated that the shed will be erected in May and opened in June 2018.

To end with a quote; 'Rome was not built in a day'. Neither is a shed yet Peter, Mitch and Justin certainly reduced the length of a day. Well done fellows!

Regards & blessings

David

President -2017/18

Next Meeting Wednesday 7th March 2018

A Very Special Evening

7th March 2018

Speakers – Garry and Darrell Smith

Helping Hands

Supporting the homeless within the Wyong Shire.

GIVE A HAND UP  / NOT A HAND OUT

Introduction to this project was made via Darrell Smith who prior to his retirement in 2014 was one of our (Northlakes Toukley Rotary) biggest supporters, donating thousands of dollars to help support our various projects.

Darrell is one of a few non Rotarians to receive a PAUL HARRIS FELLOW in 2010.

During our last meeting on the 21st February the proposed presentation on the 7th March was discussed by members attending and was agreed by all that this was an important community service and that RCNT should try and get as many members, partners, family and friends attending to generate interest and discussion on this very important social issue.

President David proposed that in order to attract as many people on the 7th March we offer a special reduced cost of $10 for non-members attending.

Members will still pay $20, partners, family & friends will be charged $10.

Please place separate Meal Orders for your guest. Order as normal with your guest’s name and in the comments please include member’s name. So that is 1 (ONE) order for each person who will be attending.

We need numbers finalized by 5pm Tuesday 6th March 2018

In typical Filipino style the parents and kids made special posters and also THANK YOU cards to the sponsors for giving them the opportunity of education.
The half yearly review was our best ever with all students scoring over 82%, an improvement of 35% from the last review. Hope you all had a great Valentines Day.

This Week's Humour

Fred’s wife found out that her dog (a Schnauzer) could hardly hear, so she took it to the veterinarian. The vet found that the problem was hair in the dog's ears. He cleaned both ears, and the dog could then hear fine.. The vet then proceeded to tell Andrea that, if she wanted to keep this from recurring, she should go to the store and get some "Nair" hair remover and rub it in the dog's ears once a month. Andrea went to the store and bought some "Nair" hair remover. At the register Con, the pharmacist, told her, "If you're going to use this under your arms, don't use deodorant for a few days." Andrea said, "I'm not using it under my arms." Con said, "If you're using it on your legs, don't use body lotion for a couple of days." Andrea replied, "I'm not using it on my legs either. If you must know, I'm using it on my Schnauzer." Con says, "Well, stay off your bicycle for about a week."
