President's Message

It is going to be a busy end of year for our Rotary Club. We need to participate in as many activities as possible:

27th October – Charity Golf day

8th November – Polio Movie Night

15th November - Club Meeting Iris Foundation presentation

29th November - Primary Citizenship Awards

6th December – Christmas party “All About Taste” North Wyong

9th / 10th /16th / 17th – Christmas tree sales

13th December – AGM Club Forum

Our open forum was as opportunity for members to update on upcoming events and discuss fine tuning of some  concerns. The matters raised in the Forum that need attention will be raised by the Club Secretary at the next Board meeting.

We need to seek our Boards guidance as to an alternate main project as the possible Salvation Army Emergency Services Shed has run into substantial unexpected setup costs.  If you have an alternate shed location idea please discuss with a Board member for presentation at the Boards next meeting on 1 November 2017.

Regards & blessings

David Knight

President 2017/18

15th November 2017 - Presentation by IRIS FOUNDATION.

Northlakes Toukley Rotary have supported Iris Foundation for many years and, with that in mind,  Iris would like the opportunity to present to our members an update on our current programs and initiatives aimed at early intervention for suicide prevention on the Central Coast.

Iris have also recently sponsored a national Suicide Prevention Australia Speakers Bureau workshop which trained 7 Central Coast locals with a “lived experience” of suicide to speak publicly about their experiences. (Suicide Prevention Australia defines ‘lived experience' as having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, cared for someone who has attempted suicide, been bereaved by suicide, or been touched by suicide in another way).

One of these speakers will join the presentation and share their personal story.

Given the current rate of suicide this is a must attend evening. We urge members to bring along family and friends.

District 9685 RAWCS Quarterly Meeting

At Diggers The Entrance

RAWCS District 9685 chair Jan Pryor informs us that this will be one of the largest meetings with over 100 Rotarians & partners from INDIA attending and when you include the RAWCS members we will have around 200 people. Our chance to show our visitors some good old fashioned Central Coast hospitality.

We urge all RCNT members to attend the dinner on Saturday night and also any RAWCS session on the 2 days, a good opportunity to learn a bit more about RAWCS and what happens on our International projects.

We will supply more information when it becomes available.

This Week's Humour

(Politically incorrect but what the heck)

An old priest lay dying in Woden's, Canberra Hospital. He had served the people near the nation's capital, at Manuka for many years.

He motioned for the nurse to come near. "Yes father?" said the nurse. "I would really like to see Malcolm Turnbull and Bill Shorten before I die" whispered the priest. "I will see what I can do" said the nurse.

The nurse sent the request to parliament house and waited for a response. Soon an answer came back: Both Malcolm Turnbull and Bill Shorten would be delighted to visit the priest. As they were driven to the hospital in Malcolm's new BMW, Turnbull commented to Shorten, "I don't know why this old priest wants to see us, but it certainly will help our images and may even help our re-election prospects." Shorten agreed it was probably a good thing.

When they arrived at the priest's room the priest took Turnbull's hand in his right hand and Shorten's hand in his left hand. There was silence and a look of serenity on the old priest's face. Finally Shorten spoke "Father of all people you could have chosen, why did you chose us to be with you at this time when your end is so near?" The old priest slowly replied "I have always tried to pattern my life and behaviour after our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." "Amen" said Turnbull. "Amen" replied Shorten.

The old priest continued, "Jesus Christ our saviour died between two lying thieving buggers, and I wanted to do the same."

Hope I did not offend anyone??
