President's Message

Many thanks P.E David for chairing Wednesday meeting, also many thanks to kind thoughts on the passing of my step father Robert.

Guest speaker Torbin Neilsen from The Entrance Rotary Club gave an informative presentation on Youth Exchange and Liz North from WyongTuggerah Rotary Club gave an update on Foundation and the amazing US$800K plus raised from the US$2650 donated by 43 Rotary clubs in our District. Liz also surprised our Maurie Schokman with a presentation of a Rotary Crystal plaque plus Paul Harris Sapphire pins for joining the US$1m Foundation club by making a Bequest in his Will.

P.E David asked all members to (a) consider new organisations that should be considered to be beneficiaries in the 2017-18 year, with a view to reviewing our current beneficiaries (b) when inviting guest speakers we should not give the impression that RCNT will make a donation to their organisation – setting expectations. (c) David would like to see members give a short presentation about themselves.

Jenny and David are working on venue for Changeover Dinner, please note and attend the following events over the next few weeks:

10th May – Board Meeting.

10th May – Dr Michael Bendon – This will be a great presentation: The story of the very first flotilla of Tank Landing Craft - their development and deployment in the Mediterranean campaigns of 1941. An untold story of ANZACs in WWII

10th May, 2017 A Must Attend Meeting. We have a very special speaker Michael Bendon an Australian archaeologist and author  who will present on a virtually untold story of ANZAC troops in WWII - For more information see below

23rd April District Assembly

Maurie & Roshni attended. We can only recommend that all Board Members attend this meeting. It is a great opportunity to learn more about your avenues of service and great opportunity to network with  Rotarians from other clubs. The opening session was very informative covering (1) Insurance (2) Youth Protection (3) Risk Management (4) Youth Exchange (5) Grants District / Global etc (6) Marketing. I found the International workshop quite entertaining with some stimulating discussion on Rotary International projects & RAWCS - quite obvious a number of clubs still do not have a clue about RAWCS and the great work District 9685 are doing overseas.

A BIG thank you to all who participated in our 2017 District Assembly.

To those that looked after registration, catering, audio visuals, foot traffic and parking, to the presenters, the facilitators of the breakouts and especially to the team that made it happen – Christine, Jade, Marilyn, Peter.  No small effort to pull together a program as broad as it was and to deliver it smoothly to 500+ people.

And a BIG thank you to all the attendees and participants in the day – your energy, enthusiasm and interaction are a credit to you.  With Rotarians like you leading, there is no doubt your clubs will be Making A Difference in 2017-18.

Next Meeting

Wednesday 10 May, 2017

We have a very special speaker Dr Michael Bendon an Australian archaeologist and author  who will present on a virtually untold story of ANZAC troops in WWII

Dr Michael's bio:

Who is Michael Bendon?

I am an Australian archaeologist and author and would present on a virtually untold story of ANZAC troops in WWII. Rather than write at length about this if you visit my website (appears below) much of the information is there. You will also find a list of my past presentations, a great number of which have been to Rotary clubs. I am sure that a quick email to any of the presidents or members of those clubs would bring a very positive response about my presentation style and content. A TV interview with me about the work, filmed on location in Crete, was aired on channel 7two December 3rd, 2016 - The Travel Bug. It is I believe still available of catch-up TV.

I do not charge for speaking but I do ask that a minimum of 5 books be purchased on the evening. Actually it is unusual for less than this be sold at any of my presentations but it has happened. The book retails for $49.95 but I sell at the meetings for $40. My apologies for speaking about money but I must to cover both my time and travelling costs. Many clubs visited have found the book of a style most suitable to donate to a local school library or to be gifted to a particular visitor to the club. The book was presented last year to the HSC students who received honors awards in particular subject areas.

NOTE: RCNT will purchase the books and present to local schools.

Whats Up

Dear President Mitch,

Our CCMUNA team - representing the combined local Rotary Clubs -  has pleasure in inviting all Rotarians and their guests to the annual CCMUNA Assembly to be held at the Erina Community Centre ( at the Hive near the Erina Fair Library) on Thursday 18th May, commencing 9.00 am.

23 teams from 16-18 public and independent CC High Schools will be debating current global issues from the perspective of their chosen country on every continent. The issues focus on sustainable tourism and development goals, refugee crisis, climate change and a proposal to move the UN Head Quarters out of  the USA. Each team will address a peace resolution prompting each countries youth personal contributions.

The official opening will be at 10.45 am after the morning tea break by CC Council Administrator Ian Reynolds. DG Bruce Lakin will present the winner's trophy at 4.00 pm aided by the UoN CC as our major sponsor. We commend our new website www.ccmuna.com for further program details, resolutions and much more, gratefully acknowledging the UoN's expertise.

Small Business Networking

Tuesday 16th May 2017

Our good friend Rotarian Lyn Davies from Rotary Club Terrigal has sent following invitation.

We would be very appreciative if you could share this flyer with Rotary Clubs on the CC and other local small business people who would find the network opportunity of value to their business. The event is next week so there is not much time for the limited spaces available. Bookings are through trybooking.com/268110.

It is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to our community, work with another organisation and also promote Rotary.

Lyn Davies
