President's Message

Unfortunately for family reasons P. Mitch is unable to send his normal message.

We wish to thank Stuart McCarthy who gave us a thought provoking presentation on Living with Alzheimer's, a disease we can all relate to either personally or someone we know. Thanks Stuart.

This year RCNT have made a major commitment to Rotary Foundation.  There is a very interesting report produced by Foundation (see report CLUB CHALLENGE RESULTS in Whats Up) on how our donation of US$2650 along with donations from 42 other clubs, has raised US$854,625. Our donations are matched with District and Global grants, worth a read. Well done District 9685.

Annual charity Golf Day is set for Friday 27th October. We are sure Jenny will need helpers, sponsors, players etc. please email Jenny if you can help. Application/Registration forms will be available soon.

Have a great weekend.

Meeting 10th May, 2017

Guest Speaker

Michael Bendon

Who is Michael Bendon?

I am an Australian archaeologist and author and would present on a virtually untold story of ANZAC troops in WWII. Rather than write at length about this if you visit my website (appears below) much of the information is there. You will also find a list of my past presentations, a great number of which have been to Rotary clubs. I am sure that a quick email to any of the presidents or members of those clubs would bring a very positive response about my presentation style and content. A TV interview with me about the work, filmed on location in Crete, was aired on channel 7two December 3rd, 2016 - The Travel Bug. It is I believe still available of catch-up TV.

I do not charge for speaking but I do ask that a minimum of 5 books be purchased on the evening. Actually it is unusual for less than this be sold at any of my presentations but it has happened. The book retails for $49.95 but I sell at the meetings for $40. My apologies for speaking about money but I must to cover both my time and travelling costs. Many clubs visited have found the book of a style most suitable to donate to a local school library or to be gifted to a particular visitor to the club. The book was presented last year to the HSC students who received honors awards in particular subject areas.

NOTE: RCNT will purchase the books and present to local schools.

Whats Up

---

Dear President Mitch,

Our CCMUNA team - representing the combined local Rotary Clubs -  has pleasure in inviting all Rotarians and their guests to the annual CCMUNA Assembly to be held at the Erina Community Centre ( at the Hive near the Erina Fair Library) on Thursday 18th May, commencing 9.00 am.

23 teams from 16-18 public and independent CC High Schools will be debating current global issues from the perspective of their chosen country on every continent. The issues focus on sustainable tourism and development goals, refugee crisis, climate change and a proposal to move the UN Head Quarters out of  the USA. Each team will address a peace resolution prompting each countries youth personal contributions.

The official opening will be at 10.45 am after the morning tea break by CC Council Administrator Ian Reynolds. DG Bruce Lakin will present the winner's trophy at 4.00 pm aided by the UoN CC as our major sponsor. We commend our new website www.ccmuna.com for further program details, resolutions and much more, gratefully acknowledging the UoN's expertise.
