Whats Up

Rotary Australia World Community Services (RAWCS) quarterly meeting District 9710 on 25th & 26th February, Canberra

Jan attended another successful and informative meeting  held at the Hellenic Club in Canberra and  hosted by  District 9710. on the 25th and 26th February with about 55 Rotarians attending.

Saturday afternoon's theme was crowd funding and first speaker was Jan Pryor from Northlakes Toukley Rotary who spoke about her successful experience in using Chuffed. This was followed by an inspiring talk from (sorry do not have name) who presented his experience of using the program Kiva and gave demonstrations on how you invest money in a person or project and when this amount is paid back, that amount is available once again for re-funding. This was followed by John Roberson discussing RAWCS's plan to set up a successful crowd funding page which is in draft form. This will allow for donors to receive a tax receipt.

The Pink Umbrella Foundation again gave away 6  X $1,000 grant to well deserved recipients.

The well-attended keynote speaker for the Saturday night evening dinner was the Secretary to the Timor-Leste Ambassador which created a feisty debate and discussions after his PowerPoint presentation.

Sundays general meeting saw discussions on: Current issues regarding Rotary volunteer groups entering Vanuatu, current fraudulent activity in overseas donations into RAWCS. and all coordinator reports and project reports were well received.

Another fabulous RAWCS weekend.

Rotary Australia World Community Service Eastern Region covers Districts 9650, 9670, 9675, 9685, 9700 and 9710 spanning across much of New South Wales and the ACT.

Of the 428 RAWCS projects nationally, 161 projects are in Eastern Region, which includes 149 Rotary Australia Overseas Aid Fund (RAOAF) projects and 12 Rotary Australia Benevolent Society (RABS) projects.
