President's Message

Presidents Message

Thanks to all those members that attended this week’s meeting there was some positive healthy discussion regarding club meetings etc. From that I have made contact with district regarding club visioning session and am awaiting their answer on the date and time for this to occur.

Club visioning session will take about 4 hours and IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that all club members be in attendance for this to be successful. So at this stage the date and time THAT ALL MEMBERS will need to in their diaries to attend is

Saturday the 12th November 2016

Starting at 1pm and finishing around 5pm

We will organise a BBQ afterwards and the venue is still to be confirmed but will be either Camp breakaway or Camp Toukley. All details will be confirmed once district gets back to me.

Also I need about half a dozen members to give me a hand to clean out the repository at Charmhaven (our storage shed) Saturday the 22nd October around lunch time and should only take a couple of hours. If you can lend a hand please let me know.

The bowling night planned for the 19th October has been cancelled and we are now planning a dinner at the new restaurant at the Beachcomber hotel in Toukley. I would like to make this a partner and family member’s night or bring a friend. I will get back to you more details and if this cannot be arrange it will just be a normal club meeting.

The GOLFDAY is now on for the 4th November and if you would like to play or can organise a team Jenny will need to know before Tuesday 11th October 2016. Also Jenny will need at least half a dozen helpers on the day and if you are able to help and don’t want to play golf please let Jenny know also.

This year’s community raffle will be launched at the Golf Day, so if you know any community groups that would like to participate please contact Jenny or myself. If there are club members who do not have a job as yet and can help, we need a few people to help run and co-ordinate this raffle PLEASE let’s not leave it all up to Jenny. IF you can help with this please let me know ASAP.

Some important meeting date changes for the coming months. Please note these and pencil them in, we would like to have as many people from the club at both events please.

Saturday the 15th October DG Bruce Lakin meeting with Upper Central Coast Clubs at Gosford leagues club for those that have booked is still going ahead as planned.

Wednesday the 23 November 2016 meeting cancelled

Thursday the 24th November Central Coast celebrations of the Foundation 100 years at Breakers country club Terrigal. Cost is $26.50 each plus a 60 cents booking fee. Booking information will be in the newsletter.

Why not invite a friend or someone you know that maybe interested in maybe joining Rotary. We have had a couple of potential members visit so far, let’s see if can get at least one visitor or potential member join us EVERY week. Remember if you don’t ask people if they maybe interested in joining Rotary then you will never know if they are interested.

Please remember to reply to Maurie as early as possible if you are attending meetings, this will make life a lot easier for him.

Yours in Rotary

Smart Dog "Archie' for Kyle

PP Annette D'Adam attended the presentation of Smart Dog "Archie". Archie is an assistance dog for Kyle who is Autistic and non verbal. Kyle requires constant supervision to ensure his safety. Archie provides Kyle some independence and gives confidence to his mum Jodie that they can now interact within the community an important part of development. This project was initiated by Annette and undertaken by The Entrance and Wyong Rotary clubs as a joint fundraiser. Both clubs raised in excess of $15,000 along with some matching grants to enable the purchase and training of Archie. The success of this project was to witness Kyle attend a function with his dog and demonstrate how Archie focused on keeping Kyle safe and in his sights. A wonderful achievement by Rotary to provide a little boy the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors like his peers.  To have a disability that restricts ones life is difficult.  For Kyle and his family Archie has changed their world in the most positive way.

Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) Courses Available

RLI 38 starts 15th October

The success of Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) in District 9685 is because it delivers skills and knowledge that Rotarians can apply straight away in their clubs.  RLI hones leadership skills, builds Rotary knowledge, gives a perspective about where Rotary has been and where it is now, and shares a vision of what Rotary can be.  This is all done while networking with Rotarians from other clubs and providing opportunities for partnering in service.

The three part course is held on Saturdays or Sundays at our District Office, Thornleigh. Morning tea and lunch are provided.  Each day starts at 8:30 for 9:00am and finishes around 3:45pm.

Until further notice, District is bearing the full cost as part of its training budget.

RLI 38 runs Saturdays; 15 October, 12 November and 26 November

RLI 37 is deferred to 2017 and runs Sundays; 22 January, 19 February and 19 March

If we get enough applicants we will run another Saturday course in early 2017.

To make RLI work we need active and enthusiastic participants, preferably 12 per course.  At the moment we are only getting 6-8 and that is underutilising the power of RLI.

Please help the RLI Team to help your Rotarians and your Club.

Any questions just call me on 0402 217 915. Ian Scott RLI Coordinator

Register at rli.rotarydistrict9685.org.au

If interested but not sure have a chat to club Rotarians Annette, Jan, Brett or Jacquelyn who all attended the Leadership Courses last year.
