President's Message

In Mitch's absence it was a privilege to chair the Rotary meeting.

Our guest speaker Bill Hignett, Unit Commander of the Marine Rescue NSW Norah Head Unit gave an enlightening glimpse into the operations of the local unit. The scope of coverage, range of call outs, vast electronic navigation programs and equipment, high competency levels, unique rescue boat, financial challenges and amazing dedicated volunteers was awe inspiring. a true depiction of the volunteer capacity of caring Australians. A service well worth participating in and supporting.

Next week Helen Isenhour from Head Space Lake Haven will be an eye opening heart felt experience. Following the 5.30pm Board meeting on Wednesday 14 September Bran O'Shannassy from the Rotary Leadership Institute will address the Club. A must for all Rotarians. Further Club activities and speakers can be found in this newsletter,

May I bring to out attention the need through the newsletter to not only book into a meeting we also need to record what type of meal so that we do not over/under order meals. More so, it is a courtesy prior to a meeting to advise whenever possible that we can no longer attend that meeting.

Enjoy the week implementing the Four Way Test in all we do and say:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Regards & blessings

David Knight
President Elect

 Yours in Rotary

Chair President Elect David Knight, Guest Speaker Bill Hignett

& our latest Rotarian Stuart McCarthy

Last Week Meeting 31st August, 2016

Marine Rescue Norah Heads

Unit Commander BILL HIGNETT

As PE David mentioned in weekly president's report  Unit Commander Bill gave us an open and informative presentation on the organisation and operational aspects of Marine Rescue. We were all surprised to hear that the annual state budget allocation is only around $13,000 PA, the rest  of the funds required to run the service is raised through donations and weekly sausage sizzles etc. A great organisation that really needs local support. We should organise a Rotary visit to Norah Heads facility.
