President's Message

 Hello again for another week.

The most important event coming up is of course our Cabaret which is only one week away.  The three club committee, along with the wonderful Halakulani staff have been working hard to make this a very successful event. I am very confident that you will enjoy every moment of the entertainment.  Bookings can be made at the Hali and you will find all the contact information in the article further in this Newsletter.  Tables 17, 20 and 26 have been set aside for Rotarians so if you want to sit at a Rotary table specify one of these when you book. They are only being held until this Wednesday when any remaining seats will be offered to the general public.

I attended the Central Coast Presidents Cluster Meeting last Friday and I would like to share a couple of items that might be of interest:

• Rotary Youth Exchange is being restructured and is looking for Rotarians interested in becoming zone coordinators.  If anyone is interested please see me for further information.

• Post Polio Workshops are being held on 27th February at Wyong and 28th April at Gosford.

• International Womens' Day Expo will take place on 5th March at the Ourimbah Campus of the University of Newcastle.

The district conference is fast approaching and I know that we have a number of members attending.  If you are thinking about attending it now is probably decision time.  I believe there is a link in this Newsletter that will give further information and take you to the registration page.

Thanks to David Knight for being our guest speaker this week.  His topic is one that is not spoken about very much and can be a little confronting.  I know he has been in the front line in attacking this situation and I am looking forward to hearing what he has to say.

Until next time

Yours in Rotary

Jenny Abourizk

Last Week

27th January

Last week we heard from Maurie about his work in the Philippines through his Cararoo Foundation. Maurie's presentation was both entertaining and highly informative.  He outlined not only  the difficulties encountered in running such a project but also the great satisfaction in seeing the positive outcomes to the lives of the children catered for.

We were also left in awe of the courage and resilience Maurie has displayed following the injury received during his last visit..
