President's Message

This has been a rather quiet week as the Christmas New Year holiday period comes to a close and we really get down to business for the new year.Because of this I have very little to report this week but I would like to leave you with a couple of important reminders.

Our very special combined clubs cabaret is only two weeks away on 7th February.  As of last week already over 100 tickets have been sold so I would suggest you get in quickly with your booking.  If you would like to sit at a Rotary table request this when you book.  Bookings are made directly through the Halekulani Bowling club on 4390 6400.

The event following the Cabaret is our annual race day which is on 7th April so make sure you have cleared this date in your diary, if you can, for what is always a wonderful day.

This week's meeting should be a very interesting one as our International Chair Maurie is going to update us on how the Cararoo Foundation is changing the lives of many Philippine children.

Until next time

Yours in Rotary

Last Week

20th January

The weather last Wednesday was very hot and the greenkeeper needed to keep the water up to the greens making them too wet for us to use.  The club very kindly provided indoor bowls but general fellowship proved to be so consuming that the bowls took second place.

One of the reasons for bowls playing second fiddle was the surprise visit of past exchange student Marie Bak. Marie is excited at being back in Australia, which she regards as her second home.  On returning home she is heading off to university in Scotland.. Good luck and best wishes on your new adventure Marie and be sure to keep us informed of this new path in your life.  We look forward to your next visit!

QUALITY SPEAKERS, AMAZING STORIES OF SERVICE AND ACHIEVEMENT!

Canberra conference – Rotary District 9685

Quality speakers and outstanding stories of service and achievement will be the highlight of the Rotary District 9685 Annual Conference planned for Canberra on March 11 and 12.

Rotary District 9685 stretches from the Blue Mountains to Gosford and back to the north western districts of Sydney. It is one of the largest and most successful Rotary Districts in Australia.

District Governor Gina Growden chose the Canberra Convention Centre as the venue for her major event of the year because of the quality and pricing of the facility and nearby accommodation – compared to other major venues around NSW.

CORRESPONDENCE IN

Northlakes Toukley Rotary Club INC. Dear Mr Bruce Thompson,

On behalf of Lakes Grammar — An Anglican School, I personally would like to thank you for running the annual Rotary Primary Citizenship Awards. My school and myself would like to commend you on the effort you put into the fabulous night.

I considered the awards ceremony as a pleasure to attend and a privilege to receive the certificate and the medallion. I believe you have done a phenomenal job on the night and I am certain all the other recipients who attended would say the same thing.

I was over the moon when I heard that I was going to attend this awards night. When I received the letter from my school's Principal, I didn't even know what the word Rotary meant. A little bit of research enlightened that Rotary was an amazing organisation, so I was glad I was coming to the night.

Once again, thank you for giving me and my co-captain the pleasure, experience, privilege and the honour to attend the night and receive these remarkable awards. I promise I will cherish the awards for a lifetime.

Finally, thank you for giving up your own personal time, doing an exceptional job leading the night. I wish this annual event further success in the years to come. I wish you and all of Rotary my best wishes and further success in nearing future.

Yours sincerely,

 Anupama Adikarimudiyanselage

Lakes Grammar Primary School Leader
